I have just acquired this wonderful pair and can't wait to get the research ball rolling!

The medals are to Lt. James Douglas Wilson Tapson (known as Douglas) - this is, believe it or not, my first Wepener clasp medal.

Regards

Rory

In the Kaffrarian Rifles History, there are a couple of references to your man. Apparently, Lt. Douglas Tapson had died prior to 11/1912 and a large photo of Tapson was presented to the unit at about that time; together with an embroidered badge. Tapson had progressed rapidly from private soldier to commissioned officer. There is an account of one of his activities in the field that you may find of interest. Tapson had eluded Boer scouts and during the evasion he recovered a Boer's hat bearing an embroidered badge; the badge bearing the red badge of the Royal Scots. That badge was the trophy presented to the Regiment, along with the portrait.
"Wepener" clasps to Commissioned officers are certainly quite scarce. Some time ago, I did a post of Captain Cosgrove of the CMR; BSACM/QSA/KSA. who served at Wepener.
