I couldn't resist this little group when I spotted it for sale. Whereas, in my opinion, medals to the S.A.C. are generally underrated this pair is different on two counts to the ones you normally see in that:

- The chap was issued with a Kings South Africa as opposed to only the Queens with the two date bars

- The rank of Farrier Sergeant on both medals is uncommon

Curtis started out life with the remount depot of the Imperial Yeomanry but gave that up in favour of the South African Constabulary after 6 months. He passed away in 1904 and, once I have researched the cause of death, I'll post his story.

A fitting way to end the old year!

Rory

Good Morning Rory.....

I concur that S.A.C. medals and history are often given short shift but they can be filled with fantastic stories......

Have you seen Jim Wallace's book on the Canadians in the S.A.C. .....

I haven't seen the book Mike but must make an effort to get a copy.

Audrey Portman - one of the researchers we so often use - is compiling a similar work on the SAC in South Africa but I'm not sure when it will be ready for publication.
