The KSA has had clear naming corrections.

Does anyone know if a museum has his medals? Just seems odd they turn up on eBay. The seller knows how important they are but doesn't sell them at a specialist auction house?

Also has anyone else got an ILH medal named as 1 - Imperial?

Maybe I am just sceptical. What do you all think?

Ryan,

I have never seen any medals to him either on the market or in museums. Its true that I have only logged a portion of extant Elandslaagte claps, perhaps 25%, so this is far from perfect information.

The BWM looks fine and the QSA/KSA pair are consistent with late issues. I thought they might be renamed medals but they appear not to be renamed.

Karr-Davies was undoubtedly involved in the Jameson incident but was he a Raider?

He is recorded as being awarded the CB for Boer War service, an honour he declined.

His own reasons as reported in newspapers was that it was a war that had to be fought to establish people’s rights and he was honored to do so for his King and Country but he had good friends on the Boer side so he would not profit in anyway either through money, advancement in rank or the receipt of honours.

Apparently he also served without pay.

You say replaced but are they not possibly first time issue albeit late in the day? In other words he was a late claimant. The fact that (let's assume he applied himself) he applied for the medals just prior to his death would indicate to me that he wanted to pass them on to a near relative perhaps?

I note he seems to have lived out the last few years of his life in the USA which tallies with the location of where the medals are being sold today.

Regards

Rory
