Herewith an interesting pair; obtained early in my FID period from City Coins.
DCM (EVII)impressed to "Guide H.LOXTON Field Intell: Dept".
QSA (F rev) clasps OFS and TVAAL impressed to "Serjt: H. LOXTON. Natal Guides".

Recommendation submitted by Director of Military Intelligence, 12061902 - "Guide H.Loxton, has done excellently throughout".
MID Lord Kitchener's final despatch, 23061902.
DCM in London Gazette, 29071902 and notified in Army Order 10/03.
QSA on page 23 of WO 100/301 with marginal note "Intelligence Dept. Clasp not known". Clasps OFS and TVAAL ticked - presumably later.

Whilst he is listed as a Natal Guide, and due to the lack of his entitlement to a King's Clasp(s) or KSA, H.Loxton's ABW service appears to have taken place in the OFS between 28021900 and 31121900 and between 24051900 and the end of 1900 in the Transvaal. The FID was formed in June of 1900; requiring new legislation to be passed to allow Natal Guides to service outside Natal.
The Buxton FID book records 10 DCMs to the Field Intelligence Department.
Three Loxtons served in the Natal Guides/FID in the ABW; each was awarded a DCM!
Both medals shown above have clearly been polished with "brasso" in the past - traces of which remain in the impressed naming.
Regards to all
IL.

An excellent pair of medals! Thank you for showing them. I am very envious! I wonder what has become of the other Foxon DCM's?

Regards

I felt sure that you would post that the other Foxon DCM's are in your collection!

IL

The Foxons are an old Natal family and amongst their number was a member of the Natal Carbineers who was awarded the MM in World War II. I will do some checking to find out more about the family.
