Hi could anyone please give me any information about my kukri, I was told it was from the boer war but I'm not sure, it's been passed down the family and I'd love some information on it, thank you :)

Welcome to the forum.

The kukri is associated with the Gurkha forces, only one of whom appears to have served in the war (there's a brief discussion here : www.angloboerwar.com/forum/11-research/32336-gurkhas ).

However, it's possible that some British soldiers had acquired kukris while serving in India, and used them, even though they wouldn't have been official issue.

It's also possible that the knife isn't actually a kukri, but something like a panga ('machete') which is more commonplace in southern Africa.

Can you post a photo of the kukri? It will help forum members to try to answer your question.

Arthur

Well, that's certainly a kukri, so unless it was issued to a Gurkha who served in the Anglo-Boer War, it seems that the only way that it might be connected with the war would be if a British soldier had privately equipped himself with one. Are there any markings, e.g. a broad arrow or a serial number, that might indicate official issue?
