Am wondering if anyone can help me identify this uniform (or person!) who apparently died in the Boer War.
We found this photo in my great grandmother's possessions with her handwriting on the back and are researching who this person may be.

Her inscription says "Baylis died in South Africa 20 June 1900. (pic) taken in UK Monmouthshire".

She was Welsh, from Cardiff, and migrated to Australia. So she either brought this with her, or someone sent it to her. He appears to be in his 20s, about the same age as my greatgrandmother would have been at the time.

Very possibly Pte T Baylis 2nd bn South Wales Borderers, died of enteric, Vereeniging 23-06-1900.

He is wearing white trousers so possibly photographed overseas - Gibraltar, India or Egypt.
