Can I ask if the South Africa Medical Corps was in existence during the ABW ?

I can't seem to find a reference for it any earlier that WWI, so wanted to pick the brains of those more knowledgable than I (that wouldn't be too difficult.... )

If you Google you will see that the S.A.M.C. was not formed until 1912.......

Before the formation of the Union of South Africa in 1910, what became the four provinces (Cape, Natal, Orange Free State & Transvaal) each had their own military medical services. Their badges and medals are highly desired by collectors.

Thank you for that. Again forgive my ignorance on this topic, a totally new area area and country of study for me.

Your comments are interesting to read Brett. Can I ask if those earlier units has specific names relating to those regions or was the name South Africa used? I think what I'm trying to say is that would the SAMC have been used as a title prior to 1910 or would would more specific unit names have been used?
