Hi everyone,

I have been given the attached photograph on a CD and would like to know what unit these chaps are likely to belong to.

The officer, Lieut S. N. Tucker is my main interest. He served first with the South African Light Horse (Lieut and Capt.) before transferring to the South African Constabulary (I believe as a Capt).

Therefore I believe this is a photograph of him and some of his troopers in the South African Light Horse.

Can anyone confirm or halp.

Regards,
Nick Tucker

I would imagine, at a glance, given their appearance, that they are indeed members of the SALH, the obvious thing to do is look at each name and compare it with their roll in WO100 as opposed to WO127, as this latter is incomplete, you might also be able to then compare with surviving rank and file papers in WO126/130-138, assuming you wish to take it as far as that.

LOL Mike,
Members of SALH were certainly not known for wearing a Stetson, moreover, although I can't read all the names on Nick's photo, I have spent many happy hours looking through WO126 and 127 at Kew and I do remember men with some of those names, a very large regiment, but, one of the best.

What I meant is other than looking at 126 / 7 the difference in uniform is a giveaway.....
