I believe they were issued in petrol stations/cereal packets as a "collectible". I will check back and confirm.

David,

Is it one from that set of medals that was produced? That would make sense.

Many thanks
David

Good Morning Everyone.....

Was trying to find more information but unable to do so......

There was a set that were a little larger than mini's and had ribbons, I had at one time a DSO and a Star of India..... They were painted not enamel..... They show up on ebay occasionally from the US and are called miniature medals which they are not.....

On British Badge Forum the Cleveland Petrol Regimental Cap Badge set is mentioned in one of their threads...

With those pointers, I found out a little more about the set from which this item comes.

Cleveland Petrol, a subsidiary of Esso, issued this set of 16 medals in aluminium in 1971.

The set consisted of:

Naval General Service Medal 1793-1840
Military General Service Medal 1793-1814
Waterloo Medal 1815
China Medal 1842
Sutlej Campaign Medal 1845-1846
Punjab Campaign Medal 1848-1849
Crimean War Medal 1854-1856
Ashantee Medal 1873-1874
Afghanistan Medal 1878-1880
British South Africa Company's Medal 1890-1897
Egypt Medal 1882-1889
India General Service Medal 1895-1902
Sudan Medal 1896-1897
QSA
War Medal 1914-1918
War Medal 1939-1945

Some 15 million were manufactured.

The medals were housed in a cardboard folder:
