I am told this is a Canada Welcome Home medal 1901.
Can anyone confirm this, and tell me anything about it?

I have never seen one of these before, and have been told they are quite rare.

To me it looks like a medallion that has had a suspender and ribbon attached. the Ribbon looks like the Naval Good Shooting Medal Ribbon.

thank you in advance,

Wombat,
James.

Hi James....

Sorry but this is not a Welcome Home Medal.....

It is a medal to commemorate the founding in 1901 of the Army / Navy Veterans Association which went on to become The A.N.A.F. Association......

Thanks mike, it was not something I had come across before.
Sorry Henk the medal is not mine, so I don't have a reverse picture.

Thanks again both for your reply.

James.

Good Morning James and Henk and Everyone Else.....

Here is a photo of the reverse of the medal, not the correct ribbon as I could not find any and a Welcome Home Key given to the returning veterans from the city of Winnipeg.....

They are together because I obtained them from the same family source in Winnipeg....

The key is illustrated in George Brown's book on Canadian Welcome Home medals, located on page 23 and photo on 24 in his Boer War section.....

I understand that for 10 days after their return and presentation with the Key to the City they were allowed into theaters, a free meal, and a free hotel room for the night etc....

Oh yes and ride on the City Trolly.....

I now have the group belonging to Ord John Mortimer.

The War & Vic are named to the CRAMC.
His Examination medallion has been enamelled, along with its 1907 date bar, which is something I have never come across before.

Here is a picture of his group.

Wombat,
James
