Dear all,

I recently acquired an unusual bun shape snuff box connected to the City Imperial Volunteers. The lid is engraved 'Les Landes 1907'.

The underside is inscribed:

No.1218 C.I.V.
Cyclist W. Foden
26th Middx Cyclist V.R.C.
from
Captain H.J.Swindley
South Africa 1899

Anyone got any ideas?

Best wishes,

Justin

And if anyone's got the CIV medal roll I'd be interested to know if Foden's on it!

Frank,

Many thanks indeed! I much appreciate it. It gives me a good starter for the research.

Is there any sign of a Captain Swindley on the roll?

Best wishes,

Justin

Hi Justin,
No, Swindley is not a common name either, there are only a couple of them on the QSA roll, like the box though, is it hallmarked?
Regards Frank

Frank,

Thanks. Yes, Birmingham 1899. More research needed!

Best,

Justin
