Hello,

during lotmaking i stumbled upon this plaque.

specifics
weight 39,18 gram
height 50,00 mm
width 39,95 mm
looks and feels like silver

it has NO marks in either one of the edges

Its found in the Netherlands (as the previous one).
Will be up for auction in june 2014.

Is this a silver one as well?

Kind regards,

J. Kuin

Hi, if there is no hallmark, then it's silver plate.

Regards
Anthony

Hi

I append a scan of my silvered and bronze examples.

On my not-so-sensitive scale the bronze one is 38.9g and the silvered one 39.1g

Anthony that is not how hallmarks work. It will have a hallmark if it is made in a country that has a hallmark system, and if the person who made it bothered to use it.

Hallmarks are specifically used for silver that is to be sold commercially. If this was not sold, or was simply made outside of the UK hallmarks we are used to, it may just not have one.

There are also certain organisations with an exception from using a hallmark as they don't have to prove the purity of their silver, e.g. the Royal Mint, but I don't think they made this piece.

There is lots of silver without a hallmark.
