I know from The Diamond Fields Advertiser article of 16 April 1901, that stars were available "for the representatives of those who lost their lives during the siege".

I wonder though if anyone can share information on any such award to a man who was KIA defending Kimberley?

Was it a given that all those who were KIA defending Kimberley received a Star?

Is there any knowledge / information on whether it would be an a, b, or c hallmarked star?

I ask becasue I have a QSA (DoK) to a man who was KIA at Carter's Ridge on 28 Nov 99, and can only assume he was entitled to a Star. He served with the KLH, aged 25, a bachelor - Tpr 276 Trooper Joseph THOMPSON.

Many thanks,

Dear Owen

I have a QSA to a man killed on 16 February 1900 in the battle at Dronfield immediately north of Kimberley, but who was wounded at Carter's Ridge. It came to me without a Kimberley Star, but I presume he would have been entitled to it if his next-of-kin had claimed it. I see on another site that the medals to George Lebram are stated to be a QSA and Kimberley Star. It appears that Scott-Turner was issued a Kimberley Medal, which was sold at Baldwins.

Best regards

Thanks Peter, I get a strong sense that the Mayor was keen that the relatives of thoose killed in the defence of Kimberley received the medal but, unless family had them named to the recipient, it will have to remain guess-work.

Good to know about Scott-Turner's medals.
