Thank you for showing pictures of a very impressive monument. They add to my (vague and unreliable) memory of other such monuments scattered around the old Empire. I wonder if there is a book on Boer War monuments in countries that participated in that war?

Residents of Toronto were intensely interested in the ABW. They celebrated news of victory and the end of fighting in South Africa in 1902 with every bit as much collective joy as they did later at end of the two world wars in 1918 and 1945. This City Archives photograph shows the huge crowd of Torontonians who gathered downtown on King Street to welcome a contingent of Canadian troops just returned from service in South Africa.
