Hi,

I am just doing some research into New Zealanders who earned the DCM in non-New Zealand units. I believe one such chap is Percival Charles Edwards. I see there is a P C Edwards who won a DCM whilst serving with the 11th Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry. Unfortunately I have no resources to investigate the Imperial Yeomanry and the DCM recipients therein, so I was wondering if there were any Forumites with knowledge of Mr Edwards and his DCM?

I have him subsequently as KiA 27/9/1918 whilst serving as a major with the Warwickshire Regiment.

Cheers

Phil

Hello Phil

I can't his IY papers on FmP - doesn't mean to say they don't exist in hard copy. I know FmP are missing some IY papers.

For my own interest I can't finds his MIC on Ancestry - although it exists at the TNA.

He has a WW1 officer's file in the TNA.

Have you read this history of the 34th: www.forgottenbooks.org/books/The_Story_o..._Yeomanry_1000509880

Phil,

There should be an attestation paper for him in WO128 at the National Archives.

The Archives also hold his papers in WO 339/21812.

He was son of the late Mr. and of Mrs. James Edwards, of Wellington, New Zealand; husband of B. L. M. Edwards, of "Chanak Bahr," Whitnash, Leamington Spa.

There is no mention of a particular action in the DCM book. His entry from the LG (The Times 28 Sep 01) reads:

The DCM was issued to him as 6434 Pte. He is on the roll as Lt (WO100/125p73).

He was reported dangerously wounded at Clocolan, 4 April (The Times on 10 Apr 01).

His promotion from Pte to Lt is recorded in The Times on 15 May 01.

He arrived in Southampton on 17 Jul 01.

6 Jan 03 relinquishes his commission.

Best wishes
David

Thank you very much gentlemen, much appreciated. I saw the medal roll of a P C Edwards of the IY, but ranked as a Lieutenant, so thanks for the confirmation that he was commissioned.

Meurig: His MiC is on Ancestry (As P C EDWARDS, Royal Warwickshire Regiment) try this (not sure if their URL are transferable?): interactive.ancestry.co.uk/1262/30850_A0...=ReturnSearchResults

His MiC mentions his DCM, so I first thought he got it early in WW1, but happy to see it is a Boer War award.

Cheers

Thanks Phil - I had "Middlesex Rgt" stuck in my head!

Interesting house name "Chanak Bahr" - this was a Turkish held feature in Gallipoli.

Yes, I would guess it was a nod towards his New Zealand heritage by naming his house after New Zealand's achievement (albeit brief) in taking the heights on August 8th 1915.

Cheers
