Can you help me find any information on my grandfather? His name is John William Canning Capron, date of birth 8/4/1876 Chiswick. He went onto WW1 and was awarded 1914 Star.

Hello Ann

There is a John Capron who served in the Boer War with the Queens Regiment and a J Capron who served with the Durham LI.

I'm not sure if one of these are your man?

I would suggest that you google the "Great War Forum" - they concern themselves with WWI related matters which is what yours is iro your grandad.

What I can tell you is that JWC Capron served with the Royal Army Medical Corps, number 1055, Field Ambulance. He was awarded the 1914 Star as well as the British War and Victory Medals. He netered the wa on 19 August 1914 and was one of the first to be deployed.

Regards and Merry Christmas
