Further to Paul and Frank's comments, the 3rd Battalion were a militia Battalion. If you want to find out what they did in South Africa it'll be in Colonel George Jackson Hay's history of The Constitutional Force, published in 1908 and reprinted in the 1980's.

If it's not in your local library it can be picked up reasonably cheaply (20 quid) online.

Thats great news, I have the Transvaal and orange free state clasps but am missing the cape colony on it. Thanks again Coldstream thats made me quite happy!!

I will be sure to pick that book up Justin would be nice to find out some of the history behind it!
