Hello, I have just joined today, I have recently found a photograph of my grandfather Alfred Taylor born 1872 in Mosley Worcester Died 1.11.1943.On the back of the photo is written 1900 Boer War South Africa. I would like to know what regiment he served with and what campaigns he took part in. I have attached a copy of the photograph

Any help would be appreciated

Gill,

There are quite a few A Taylors on the medal roll.

Can anyone recognise the uniform?

With thanks

Hello Gill

Great photograph - where was it taken?

The uniform is not Regular British Army. It is probably volunteer cavalry, I assume he was not overseas prior to fighting in the Boer War? If so, then he was probably in the Imperial Yeomanry.

You don't necessarily need to know the unit in order to start your research, the service papers on FindmyPast and Ancestry can be searched by name and year of birth.
