I believe from internet searches that 6 Militia Artillery units were permitted to form a Service Company of volunteers to serve in South Africa alongside the Regulars, forming the Durham & Edinburgh Division RGA. I suspect my GGF (Edward Francis king) was part of a Dublin City Artillery volunteer service company as one of these 6 Militia units. I cannot seem to find his Durham & Edinburgh Division RGA service history on 'find my past' but and his original DCA service number (1378) may well have changed. I have read that the elements of the Durham & Edinburgh Division RGA were at Fort Prospect and Ladysmith but I would be interested if anyone knew what their movements and actions were over the war.
I am also told by family that he served in India and I have read that some of the Durham & Edinburgh Division was brought down from the Natal–Transvaal frontier and sailed to Bombay in India guarding Boer prisoners of war, with part of that unit remaining in India guarding prisoners for some time. would anyone know how long they stayed in India.
Any information to help fill the gaps in my GGF's service history over the Boer war would be amazing. He later went on to serve in WW1 in the Army Service Corps (SN:T/344140)
