Philip,
Cannot find, on FMyP, attestation papers or service records for 5919 Pte Frederick Rudman, KSLI but that is to be expected for a soldier who died in service.
I presume you have found him on the 2/KSLI Medal Rolls which record his date of posting to the 1/KSLI as 16 March 1902 and show his QSA was adorned with 5 clasps – CC, OFS, Tr, SA1901 & SA1902. .
I have also found him on two other documents on Ancestry which show his full name was Frederick John Rudman, born in Birmingham to a father named Henry, a “leather worker” who attested on 9 January 1899, died in Poona on 10 September 1902 and was buried the following day in St Sepulchre’s Cemetery.
I can find the registration of the birth of a Frederick John Rudman in Birmingham in Q3 1882 which means he should appear on an 1891 Census return aged 9 but I cannot find it.
You will note all of the 5 soldiers who died in Poona in 1902 listed on the Record of Deceased Soldiers’ Effects were serving in the 1/KSLI when they died. The last two on the previous page were also 1/KSLI died in Poona in 1902.
The KSLI in Poona received numerous mentions in the 1902 British Newspapers including the death of at least one officer due to enteric fever but your man does not receive a specific mention.
Regards, David.
