Was there a Widow and Dependents Pension issued for soldier deaths during the Boer War ?
My great uncle died in 1915 during the Great War and I have records of a pension paid out to his mother until her death in 1928 which was then transferred to his father until his death a few years later in 1931.
My Great Grandfather - Alexander McNaughton - S.A.C. 405 - died in 1902 in South Africa and was buried in Heidelberg Cemetery.
His widow ( my great grandmother- Jessie MacKenzie McNaughton ) had three young children aged under 5 years old in 1902 and I wonder if she would have received a similar type of pension ?
She certainly would have needed some help !
I now know after research that she remarried in 1905.
However I did find a more distant relative who was killed in the 1914-1918 and his widow continued to receive such a pension even after she remarried.
So my thoughts are ….
Was there a Widow and Dependents Pension issued for deaths in the Boer War conflict ?
Is there a way to locate and see such a document.
For example I was very kindly offered a copy of my Great Grandfather’s Attestation Papers and I wonder if such related pension documents for the soldier exist ?
Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated
Thank you
Alan
