Hello
My name is Donna. I'm not sure I am in the correct place?? I would like to identify my 2x Great Grandads Regiment and Service Number, if possible. I have some fantastic photos with the inscription Murree & Rawal Pindi. I know very little about the Boer War, so I'm using this site to expand my knowledge - thank you!

Hello Donna,

Can you please attach a photograph as an attachment.

Welcome Donna,

It looks like there were 5 men in the Boer War called A Hallam.

Was Arthur's father George, of 64 King's Meadow, Nottingham? If so he served in the King's Royal Rifle Corps, nr 1393.

There is another A Hallam, 8432, who served in the Warwickshire Regiment. No forename and no papers, sadly.

The other men do not have his forename.

Best wishes
David

Thank you so much for taking the time to investigate. Arthur’s Father ( and older brother) were both George Hallam but they are not showing at Kings Meadow on the 1891/1901/1911 census, unfortunately, so I can’t say definitively that it’s him. So I guess it could be one of the other 2? Did the soldiers usually sign up to a regiment in their towns name? He does have the 2 rifles on his cuff. I’m also told that he got 2 medals, one for getting water for his comrades during battle but that’s the only story I have.
Thanks in advance.
