Hello
My Great Grandfather , Charles Lees, served in the Boer War with the Grenadier Guards but we know very little about him. The only evidence we have of his service is the certificate that I have attached a photo of. Please can someone help me with any information about the certificate, why it was presented or any records about my Great Grandfather. Thanks

MRead,

Welcome to the forum. I have converted your attachment to an image to make it easier to see as it is a very attractive certificate.

It would be great to see a higher resolution version of that certificate if you have one?

4911 Sgt C Lees, 3rd Grenadier Guards received the Queen's Medal with 6 clasps, Belmont, Modder River, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill and Belfast. He also received the King's Medal with the usual two clasps.

You can read about the 3rd Grenadier Guards here

I did not find any service papers for him.

Thank you so much. It's lovely to finally have some information about Charles. He died when my dad was very young and we believe he ran away from home to join up so the family know hardly anything about him.

MRead,

While these are not his medals, they are the same as the medals Charles received.

Hello Mread
Welcome to the forum. Is it possible for you to provide any information on where your Great Grandfather Charles was born?

Cheers

Dave...

PS. Was Charles, married to Agnes Rebecca Eastwick?
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,
Dave
