Anthony, welcome to the Forum.

Your man was named James Wilson. He was born in Manchester and aged 22 years 6 months when he attested on 1st November 1899 in Preston.

He sailed for South Africa on New Year's Day 1901 and moved on to India in October 1902 where he served for 5 years 2 months.

His QSA should have 5 clasps - Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal & South Africa 1901 & South Africa 1902.

I am not clairvoyant - his army paperwork can be found on Find My Past. If you don't have access to FMP send me your email address via the PM service on this site.

Regards David (Smethwick & Pembrokeshire).

Hello Anthony
Welcome to the forum.

David pipped me to the post with the above information.

All I can add is that he served with the 3rd Battalion Loyal North Lancashire regiment before he attested to the RFA.
12 years service with the colours.
If you search for his medal rolls on Ancestry there are 3 entries.
S Wilson 1692 79th Battery RFA
T Wilson 1692 "" ""
G Wilson 1692 4th Local Ammunition Column,. as you can see, all Christian name initials are transcribed differently. As David has stated, Driver Wilson's Christian name on his papers was James.

Regards

Dave
