Hello all, I have recently joined the Forum and my interests in the 1899-1902 war are the Volunteer Companies of the South Lancs Regt .and from quiet recently, the Warrington Corps of the St Johns Ambulance Brigade.I am also on the look-out for an example of the 1899 to 1902 Queen Alexandra's Cross. (or I could always try collecting hens teeth!)
Many Thanks.

Welcome to the forum TrooperB.

You certainly don't see many of the Queen Alexandra's Crosses. It is a beautiful award ( www.angloboerwar.com/forum/19-ephemera/2...olate-box-rare#68115 ).

Do you know how many Queen Alexandra's Crosses were issued?

According to Hibbard the official name is The London Hospital (Queen Alexandra's Cross) Medal in his book of Welcome Home Medals. Also he states that there or he cannot find a list of who were presented with them.... They were issued un-named..... There is a list of 5 names of those that are known to exist......

Thanks, I don't know the number of awards and only became aware of the Cross whilst looking through Hibbards Tribute Medals (for something else) after I was lucky enough to obtain the QSA to Sister Clara Evans last year, of whom forum member Berniece has posted information and photographs .

Sorry, new to computers and the forum, Sister Clara Evans is listed in Hibbard as one of the 5 known recipients of the Cross.
The article and photographs of the memorials regarding the death of Sister Evans were taken by Berenice to whom I say thank you
as Clara was from my home town..
