Hello,

I am researching for a book on people from my village in Ireland who fought in WW1. I have a query about a SA Police Man who fought in the boer war - I think. And also in the German East African theatre during WW1. I know he served with the SAC. My thinking is that if I can locate him for the Boer war then hopefully will lead me to his service in WW1. Any help you can give me would be very much appreciated

His name was John Doyle, Castledermot, Co.Kildare, Ireland. D.O.B. 06.01.1875. He died in 1944 in Ireland. I know he had a farm in Transvaal also.

I have attached a cutting from thre local paper dated December 1914 and some SA death papers.

Thank you,
Gerard

Hello Gerard
Welcome to the forum.
I found a J Doyle who served in A Division South Africa Constabulary
Regimental number 1427. Trooper.
He is mentioned on 2 medal rolls. Dated 1902 Western Division
1903 ,1st September at Potchefstroom.
Queens South Africa medal with 4 clasps awarded. Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal and the 1901 date clasp.
Do you have any details on his regiment or service in WW1?
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,
Dave

Thanks Dave. All I know for sure is that he served in the SAC and mention that he fought in Boer War and WW1. The family remember medals but have nothing. I believe he is the man kneeling in this photo taken in 1903
