From the Vorm A/B applications, he served throughout the South African War, including on the Tugela, at Colenso, at Spion Kop and many other battles. he was the adjutant of Gen Chris Botha.
Edwards Verkennerkorps [Edwards Reconnaissance Corps] was a small unit, famous on the Tugela for the heroism of 3 scouts [Hindon, de Roos and Slegtkamp] who thwarted a British advance on 20 Jan 1900 by pretending to be a much larger force.
