Welcome to the forum, Johnaugust,

I was not aware of movement of prisoners between St Helena to Bermuda. What is the source of your information please?

This site lists the ships arriving with prisoners but does not say from where they came. I had always presumed they arrived directly from South Africa.

While a prisoner on St. Helena in 1902 my father carved a whale-bone spoon, which I have, and also in 1902, when he was a prisoner in Bermuda, he made a wooden box with the coat of arms of the Zuid Afrikaanse Republic carved into its lid, which I also have. My father was born in Graaff-Reinet on November 3, 1883 and moved to Pretoria with his family just before the start of the Boer War. At the age of 16 he joined the Boer forces under a pseudonym with the first name of Alex. Both the whale-bone spoon and the wooden box are signed "Alex". I do not know what the pseudonym surname was.
