I am researching a volunteer John Thomas Turnbull 84th Co of Imperial Yeomany (Rough Riders) who was KIA at Palmeifontein (on tombstone in Kroonstad cemetary) and / or Doorn River (on military records) on 16Oct1901. But I cannot find where this action actually took place - I have assumed the eastern Transvaal, but that is really just a guess. Can anyone enlighten me?

Hi
Lace is a historic diamond mine, some 30 km NW of Kroonstad. It was discovered in 1896 and the first mining operations were started in 1901.
This is where Turnbull was killed

The SAFF casualty list shows "33981 Pte. J.T.Turnbull" who was serving with the 22nd Bn., I.Y. as "Killed near Doorns River, ORC on 16/10/01".

Hi - very grateful for this help, I have been puzzling over the location for years now. Where does the document come from - is it the war history of the IY?

Is Lace in the Free State?

Captain Edward David Provis Wickham, 84th Co., 22nd Battalion Imperial Yeomanry, was killed in action at Doorn River, O.R.C., 16th October 1901. O.R.C. stands for ORANGE RIVER COLONY and Doorn River is near Kroonstad in the Free State.
