Dear Sir/Ma’am
I am searching for the military records and service number of my Great Great grandfather Agustus Kolbe Enslin. Born 16 September 1851 Died 1934, he fought in the Boer War, WW1 and South West Africa campaign against the Germans, during this campaign his OC was Col. Swart, he fought in the Battle of Riet during SWA Campaign in 1914.
Please may you help me?
Kind regards
Michael Enslin

Welcome Michael,

Here is the search results for British and South Africa participants during the Boer War. No immediate match springs out:

Do you have any more details about his Boer War service?

To add to that list, a close match:

AJ Enslin Dordrecht Town Guard

The roll clearly shows "AJ", but that could still be an error for 'AK' (clutching at straws??).

For WW1 service email [email protected]. WW1 papers used to be readily available, I am sot sure on the situation now.

So in the case of the Anglo Boer War service, very clearly not a member of the British Army or SAMIF, I take it you have already consulted the War Museum in Bloemfontein, did he subsequently apply for the ABO medal?
If he did, his application should remain extant in Pretoria and you would certainly be able to obtain a copy.

I checked the ABO roll and did not find him so I guess he did not apply for the medal which is a shame as it would have provided essential information on him. We could work on the basis that he most probably joined the Potchefstroom Commando?
