Lance Cpl McCann E Company 2nd Royal IrishRifles

Trying to find out information on this man. Have done search in Boer War sites to no avail so far. Wondering if anyone can help with any records for him? I am attaching a photo oh him. He is in second row from back second man in on the left with moustache facing to side. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the Forum. There are several McCanns of the 2RIR mentioned in the Casualty lists. There is "3139 Pte. McCann, D, POW, Stormberg, 10/12/99", there is "1584 Cpl. McCann, J
Wounded 3-4/4/00 Reddersburg", there is "3140 Pte. McCann, J, POW Reddersburg 3-4/4/00", there is "1183 Pte. McCann, P, POW and released at Reddersburg (same date)". Is your man any of these? Or none? It always helps if a forename or initial can be given.
Regards
IL.

Many thanks for the replies. Forgot to add his first name new boy mistake. Francis being it. Now for my problem there was another Francis (no relation) who served at the same time and came from the next street. His regiment was the Royal Irish Fusiliers 5990 his number. I was able to rule him out due to his religion he being Protestant. Whilst the Francis I seek was R.C.

The one thing that is staggering is the McCann in the photo has a staggering resemblance to both my uncle his son and half of our family. It is uncanny. I know he served in both India and S Africa by conversations to my grandmother when she was alive and to Chocolate tins she kept that were given to him whilst he served. My uncle also confirmed that he went with my granny to sell his medals when they fell on hard times when he was young.

Hello

Have you searched medal rolls on Ancestry and service papers on FindmyPast?
