Hello All
Im new to this site and do not have a lot of knowledge on the Boer war
I came here because everything I tried to search on the Boer war brought me here and Im looking for more information I might be able to find on my Great Great grandfather who was in the war
His name was Walter William Ladbrook. He was born in Blackheath England
I was fortunate enough to have my great grandma alive and tell me that he was part of the Great war and Boer war. I know he moved to Canada in-between the 2 wars
In his WW1 papers, it says he was part of the 6th Dragoons (after reading some posts here I did learn that there are 2 different ones) with a bit of searching here, I found out that he was part of Carabiniers
It also says SA (5) ... not sure what this means
any help would be greatly appreciated
Trisha

Hello Trisha

Walter's Boer War era papers are available online at Findmypast. He served with number 3907 in the 6th Dragoon Guards. He was in South Africa from November 1899 to August 1902 and later served in India before being transferred to the Army Reserve, finaly leaving the army in 1910.

He was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps Relief of Kimberley, Paardberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg & Diamond Hill and the King's South Africa Medal with clasps South Africa 1901 & South Africa 1902. The notation SA (5) you came across presumably refers to the number of clasps on his QSA.

He re-enlisted for WW1. If you have his WW1 papers you can download his Boer War era papers (for a fee) to give you the full set of his army service documentation.

Regards

David

Thank you for this information
I guess this explains why I can't seem to find any info on him before 1910
I do have his WW1 papers and thats how I found out he was in the 6th Dragoons and that my great grandma told me he was in that war.
It wasn't much to go on, but it was something
I guess I might have to try out find my past to access that info
again thank you for this info and I look forward to learning more about him and the Boer war in my research of him
