Hi Trevor, welcome to the ABW Forum. I had a quick look at the Boer War medal rolls and can't find a man by that name in the Sussex. What was his regimental number and do you have any idea when and where he enlisted?

Cheers,

Mark

Trevor,

Armed with his service number it was possible to find him. It was more difficult before because he is listed with the surname Bryan on the medal rolls.

The QSA roll (WO100/187p185) lists the clasps CC and OFS.

The Supplementary roll (WO100/187p210) list the clasps Tr, SA01 and SA02.

Does he have those five clasps on his medal?

If you have his service papers, I'm not sure there is much more military history you can discover. Some people at this point research the regimental history to see where he was in South Africa and what the regiment did. Then there's the non military research that you can undertake.

Good luck
David
