Hi.
I have downloaded the records above from Ancestry and his service and pension records are on line showing him born in Hay, Herefordshire but living in Dorstone <Herefordshire
Just had a good look at them and where it says have you served before he has put 11years 9 months with Rga DISCHARGED 1898
So where would that put him in relation to Boer war.
Im starting to think that David in earlier post could be right

If he was discharged in 1898 he will have missed the Boer War. Probably recalled or volunteered for the Great War.

You could check the 1901 Census and see if he was in the UK at that time.

Hi.
1901 Census shows him living in Dorstone with wife Lucy and 1 daughter and working as engine driver at brickworks.
So would he have been in service overseas before this
