Yes thats the local account of events of the naming of Poverty Bay by Captain Cook in 1769. A real oxymoron as it one of the most fertile and productive farming areas in NZ. Apparently Cook sailed up the east coast and had a better reception at Tologa Bay where at a cove named Cooks Cove he was able to obtain fresh water and provisions from the local Maoris without incident.
