TOPIC:

Just a quick word of introduction, since I suspect many members of the Forum already know me from various other fora dealing with Empire/Commonwealth military history and medal collecting.

I have been interested in (and researching) the military history of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) for well nigh 15 years; and the history of the Royal Indian Marine (cum Navy) for even longer.

Ceylon, (of course?), sent two contingents to South Africa, (in 1900 and 1902), and the Royal Indian Marine also played a modest role in the conflict. I have accrued a fair bit of information on both of these subjects, which I would be happy to share with any others similarly interested. I must caution, however, that my "slant" in all such research is that of a medal collector, which can mean that my selection of material from the (far-from-perfect) historical record doesn't always accord with what certain other historians of the period consider most important.

Regardless, I look forward to joining in the discussion.

Welcome to the forum, I am a new member also.
One of the first QSA's I purchased is to -
363 Tpr. C.C. Bell Ceylon M.I. CC,Drief,J'berg, D'Hill, Witt, SA01.
I understand that he died of illness after returning to Ceylon. It was for sale with a medal / medals to a relative I found out later but unforunately I only picked the QSA. One of my favourite medals.
