Great to be a part of this wonderful site. My area of interest is mainly Tasmanian Contingents to the Boer War, and specifically Trooper Frederick Royden Chalmers. I've almost completed a book about his life and military career and the ABC ran a story about him for Remembrance Day.

Queens Medal & 5 clasps
Kings Medal & 2 clasps
DSO
CMG
14/15 Star
British War Medal
Victory Medal
MID x2.

Hope to be able to gain more of an insight and share info and photos here with you all.

Regards,
Scott Seymour.

Scott

Welcome to this forum. I look forward to your future posts. Chalmers had a great group of medals and he must have led an interesting life that was well worth recording.

Regards
Brett

Thanks Brett. Yes indeed, an interesting life up until 1943. I'd say he's most likely the only Boer War vet to have been taken prisoner by the Japanese in WW2 in the Pacific, sadly that would end his life at the age of 62.

Hi Scott. My name is Tony Martin, formerly of Gippsland in Victoria but now a resident in Queensland. I am writing to see if I can get a copy of your book about Nauru ( I realize that I am replying to a 6 year old post on this website) and particularly about Frederick Royden Chalmers. He was my Mother's uncle ( my Mother's maiden name was Bennett )and I remember many years ago she spoke about her relative being decapitated by the Japanese. Occasionally the subject would come up but there was little to no factual information available. When she mentioned him again about 2 years ago, I googled his name and a ton of information suddenly became available, most of which I printed and sent to her. She was stunned to learn so much about him and see so many photos of him. When I was young, his daughter Noreen McDonald was a big part of my life as we lived in neighboring towns in country Victoria. We lived in Morwell and she and her family were in Traralgon. Her sister Molly Bateson and her family lived on a farm outside Rosedale near Sale. The son was Roy, nicknamed "Boy" and he and his family lived mostly in Melbourne as I remember. Uncle Roy was a favorite as he always had an engaging smile and took time to talk to us kids. Mum said he was always a gregarious and mischievous character as a youngster. It seems that Frederick Royden didn't maintain contact with his first family after he remarried and went back to Tasmania, and Mum cant remember much about him. I have looked to see if your book is available for purchase but cant find it so far. Can you let me know if it is available and from where I can get hold of a copy.
