February in Kimberley is notable for being the height of the rainy season. The average rainfall for the month is 75 mm (3"), so, when it does rain there, it is worth reporting.

Kimberley must have been exciting during the Siege, but it was probably a lot less so in 1904.

From the same album which contained the Naval Gun at Simon's Town comes this photo, captioned “British Graves at Modder River”. It looks as though it was taken from a cart or slow-moving train. I tried to enhance the one marker with visible text but didn’t get anywhere.( Capt. R.G.???)
