After seeing the cartoon titled "John Bull before and after", I thought I had seen a similar item in quite the opposite context. A bit of a search and there it was: "Oom Paul - before and after" on p32 of issue No.2 of the Black and White magazine's Transvaal Special. No publishing date - but most likely to have been a day or so after 11/10/1899.
