Well collating the replies, still not sure but I think it reads

"Dont shed more have thought of England now"

Paul

I have checked the other SA National Archives repositories and your man has one file in Cape Town and about a dozen in Pretoria. Most seem to be about legal matters, including Oliver's insolvency in 1922. I did not find a Death Notice. Such notices often contain useful information about place of birth, immediate family etc.

The problem with all SA Archives' files is that you need someone local to copy them. In the past, I had heard of Archives' staff providing this service but I suspect that would be a bridge too far in the New Democratic South Africa.

Regards
Brett

Hi Paul,

many thanks for "posting" the card; the pics are very interesting; (I love these old postcards,) as is the message.
I interpret it as follows:
"Don't shed more (tears) and have enough, (enjoy) England now." The "E" of "England" is identical to the "E" of "enough."
I suspect she may be a South African Lady who has gone to the mother country away from the war.

regards,

Iain

Hello Iain,
Was hoping you would see the post knowing you are a ILH expert.
That you for your interpretation, that does make sense.

Paul :)
