Described as:

Siege of Koffyfontein, £5, 1901, serial number 42, stained, with pinholes, in PMG holder 25, very fine, an exceptionally rare note with only 9 examples known, 5 of which are in private hands, this is the only one yet graded by PMG, an iconic note and a key type for Boer War collectors.

Estimate £8,000 - £10,000

Refer to Amery Vol.V page 26. A few lines about "this important mining centre" and "resolutely held by Capt. Robertson"; attacked October 26, 1900. Might be more in Maurice.

Fascinating!
One really has to admire the resourcefulness of a British officer, who, besieged from 24th October to 3rd November 1900, managed to print his own currency!
