Hello Everyone
My first post and I wonder if anyone can help identify this item. It appears to be silver and is about the size of a serviette ring. On the outside is the engraving '99 Anglo Boer War. On the inner J Roux POW. I have no idea of the provenance as it was found here in Cape Town in a commercially bought bag of potting soil.
Any help would be much appreciated

Welcome to the forum. Such items are intriguing - even if there is no resolution. At first, I thought that the surname "Roux" would be more commonly found in the Boer ranks than otherwise. Yet, would a Boer burgher have used the English terminology: " '99 Anglo Boer War"? In any case, in the Palmer Casualty roll. there is one "Scout Roux J of French' s Scouts" who was made PoW at Bethesda on 10/8/1901 and (presumably later) released. Most probably a coincidence.
Regards
IL.
