Engraved inside "Presented to Private Joseph Bailey by the inhabitants of Hinckley in recognition of his service as a volunteer in the South African War June 1901."

In its Services Sports Watches box of issue. Minor wear around release catch to open reverse as the mechanism is very stiff, case with Chester hallmarks for 1901.

Hinckley is in Leicestershire so recipient likely to have been with Yeomanry or Leicester Regt.

Rare Hinckley Boer War silver tribute pocket watch, engraved inside "Presented to Corpl Thos Cassell by the inhabitants of Hinckley in recognition of his service as a volunteer in the South African War June 1901." Top of winder is missing, otherwise very fine, case with Chester hallmarks for 1900. With 4 copied pages of service record, he was born in St Mary's Hinckley, enlisted with 1st Vol Bn Leicester Regt 23/1/00 aged 33, number 6743, promoted Cpl 24/1/00, served South Africa 17/2/00 to 6/8/00, discharged 22/1/01, issued QSA with Natal clasp. Warwick & Warwick sold a similar Hinckley tribute watch in February 2018.
