G Budricks was the brother of my great grandfather Stefan Budricks, Stefan was also a troop of the Prince of Wales Light Horse. Troop 25681. We have limited information on George Budricks.

Definitely fascinating & cleverly done, really like Tommy's 1900 Calaendar - George Budrick was obviously talented.

It was sent to Elizabeth Jane Moore aged 23 at the time and working as a "Parlourmaid" for a retired Chemist at the said address (source 1901 Census). The sender was her younger brother, by a year or two, William John Moore who was second wave IY and served with the 43rd Company, 12th Battalion, regimental number 26578. Both were London born. When he attested William gave his occupation as "Engineer's Fitter". He appears to have survived unscathed and married in 1905 in Islington and according to the 1921 Census had 5 children. On the Census he described himself as an "Experimental Engineer". Still alive at the time of the 1939 Register.

An S Budrick can be found on the medal roll for the Prince of Wales Light Horse but with regimental number 25687, actually he has two regimental numbers against his name the other being 35917. He appears to have been awarded a QSA with a South Africa 1901 clasp but no other clasps. There is a comment as follows "Tried & sentenced by F.G.C.M. to 2 years IHL for refusing to obey lawful command."

There is no G Budrick on the medal toll but a transcribed record for Stefan/Stephen on Find My Past implies when he attested he gave his brother George as his next of kin with address "Corner of St George Church St Cape Town".

Thank you for this information. May I ask to share the information from find my past as per your message? Why there are two troop numbers I dont know. We know S Budrick was jailed.

This is the medal roll G Budrick appears on. I presume the 1909 date in the right hand column means he eventually did receive his Queen's Medal but whether it had one clasp or no clasps is open to debate. This document is held by the National Archives but can be downloaded from Ancestry. From memory there are 4 transcripted records on Find My Past but only one mentions George. I hope to recover these later today and post them. The Prince of Wales Light Horse was a South Africa raised unit, thus I cannot recover attestation papers/service records (if they still exist) but other Forum members may be able to. Regarding two regimental numbers my guess is that when he was imprisoned he was kicked out but allowed to rejoin on release and then grudgingly given a medal. For my rejoining guess to be feasible I think his 2 year sentence would have had to be commuted - but I am guessing.
