After the was, a Royal Commission was established to reflect on the conflict and identify lessons that could be learnt.

The proceedings were recorded and published by His Majesty's Stationery Office (HMSO). Many people appeared as witnesses before the Commission.

General Redvers Buller appeared on Tuesday 16 February and Wednesday 17 February 1903.

His evidence, amounting to over 90,000 words, was published in 1904 in its own volume of the proceedings.

The 157 page volume is arranged as follows:

p 1 - 2: Title and preface
P 3 - 46: Prose account of his time before and in South Africa
P 47 - 148: Questions and answers, called viva voce. They are sometimes references in the prose section as 'See Qxxx' where xxx is the question number
P 149 - 157: Appendices

I have divided the report into a number of pages on the site.

I have other volumes from the Commission to add as time allows.

If anyone finds any errors with the text, which are likely, please let me know and I will correct it.

Having noted that there were some errors in the text when first published, I am very grateful IL for reading, editing and correcting all the pages that comprise his evidence.

Thank you, IL.
