Yesterday, 'absentminded beggar' included a picture of the British Memorial on Spioenkop, together with ones of Wagon Hill and Caesar's Camp. Also, some time ago, Paul showed a postcard that depicted the Spioenkop Memorial:

Since Spioenkop was such a significant battle, I decided to show some photos taken there a few years ago. Spioenkop is probably one of the best Natal battlefields to visit. It is an eerie place that is virtually unchanged since the day of the battle. There is no human habitation nearby and the monuments have not been vandalised and have been kept in good order. A bonus is that it offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, which, at a distance, looks largely unspoiled.

The first picture is a view looking east across Aloe Knoll and Twin Peaks. It is clear that had the KRRC been allowed to remain on Twin Peaks, and if the British troops had stayed in place on Spioenkop itself, the battle might have ended very differently.
