Thanks my great grandfather 6229 Cpl Arthur Frederick Aldridge 2nd Bedfordshire Regiment (later Lieutenant Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Regt) apparently used to claim he had been listed on the memorial by mistake presumably he was not aware of the A Aldridge who had died.

Thanks
Mark

Re. Lance Corporal CAPPELL, Oxfordshire Light Infantry. The 1st Battalion's memorial doesn't have any surname similar to Cappell on it; however, there was a C. Capel who served in the 1st Battalion, but he's not recorded as having died in active service as far as I can see. Could he have died after returning to England?

Private A. TYSOE, 1st Rifle Brigade, should be 5249 Rifleman A. TYSON, 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade, who died at Standerton from pneumonia, on an unknown date.

14989 Private Charles VIDAL, 28th (Bedfordshire) Company [Compton's Horse] Imperial Yeomanry. He was Charles Barnaby Magenis Vidal, born 15.8.1878, and was killed in action at Klipdrift on 7.3.1902, while serving as 35779 Sergeant-Major Charles Vidal in Ashburner's Light Horse.

Hi Berenice,
I always look down your lists of names when you post about ABW memorials.
I've picked up a name of interest to me from the above mentioned.
That of 22216 Trooper Sidney William Squire of the Commander-in-Chiefs Bodyguard who was severely wounded at Lindley on 3rd January 1901 and died of disease at Kroonstad on 24th February 1901. I posted a biography of him on the the thread "Medals to the Commander-in-Chiefs Bodyguard" on the forum.
I now have an extra memorial site to add to his story thanks to your research.
Cheers Steve.
