Extract from a letter home by an unnamed private of the Highland Regiment, on 14th December :—"I am sorry to say that young Lieutenant King was killed on the 11th of December. He died doing his duty bravely. It will be a sore blow to Colonel King." Glasgow Herald, Wednesday 10th Jauary 1900
'Colonel King' was Walter's father, Charles Macintosh King, who was the Honorary Colonel in the 4th Volunteer Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.
