In Warrington Cemetery. Very unusual in that he was remembered twice on the same family gravestone - someone must have decided that the initial inscription wasn't adequate, and that he should be remembered for posterity as having died during the war. I've never come across anything like this before, either ABW, WW1 or WW2.

In Loving Memory of
HENRY MALKIN
DIED JAN 15TH 1918, AGED 63 YEARS.

ISABELLA WIFE OF THE ABOVE

ALSO JOHN WILLIAM SON OF THE ABOVE
AGED 22 YEARS, WHO DIED IN SOUTH AFRICA

ALSO JOHN AND MARY SPENCER
FATHER & MOTHER OF THE ABOVE.

PRIVATE JOHN WILLIAM MALKIN
WHO DIED OF ENTERIC FEVER MARCH 19TH 1900
WHILE SERVING WITH THE AMBULANCE CORPS

.

John and Mary Spencer were the parents of Isabella, so they were the maternal grandparents of John William. The birth of John William Malkin was registered in Warrington, third quarter of 1877, his mother's maiden surname being Spencer.

John Malkin was subsequently buried at Maitland cemetery Capetown, after exhumation from Woodstock cemetery, his name appears upon a memorial to those similarly exhumed.
