In St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, Edinburgh.

In loving memory of
Lewis Balfour Bradbury
Lieutenant
2nd Battn Gordon Highlanders
Born in Calcutta 12th Nov. 1877
died 22nd October 1899
from wounds received in
the battle of Elandslaagte'
"The souls of the righteous
are in the hands of God."

Lieutenant Bradbury, of the Gordon Highlanders, who was killed at Elandslaagte, was one of the best athletes at Edinburgh Academy. He was a brilliant runner, and had he gone in for foot racing he would probably have become one of the best men. He was almost equally conspicuous as a football player, both as a schoolboy and as a senior. Before he left Edinburgh, and while he was at Sandhurst, he repeatedly played for Edinburgh Academicals, and he also played for the London Scottish, while his name was at one time freely mentioned as a likely international player. He joined the Gordon Highlanders three years ago.
